13.44

論「又若薪等滅至即成滅因」，前文義便破於異計，今更重破正量部計火合為因，即是頌中第六句也。應滅下之因即是生中之因，應生上因即是滅中之因。

On the Śāstra's: "Furthermore, if the cessation of fuel and so on ... would become the cause of cessation": Earlier, by way of contextual relevance, disparate assertions were refuted; now the Sammatīya position that conjunction with fire is the cause is refuted once more—this being the sixth line of the verse. The cause of lower cessation would be the cause of middling arising; the cause of higher arising would be the cause of middling cessation.
