13.51

論「然於無間至行增上慢」，論主釋疑也。疑曰：若無行動，如何見法從此至彼？論主釋云：如燒草焰，遠見之時，見此火焰從此至彼，然實火焰當處隨滅，然以見不明謂有行動。色等亦爾，實念念滅，慧目闇者謂有行動，非有謂有，增上慢也。

On the Śāstra's: "Yet, regarding continuous [arising] ... have the overweening conceit of movement": The author of the Śāstra resolves a doubt. The doubt asks: If there is no movement, how is it that phenomena are seen to go from here to there? The author of the Śāstra explains: Just as when observing the flame of burning grass from afar, one sees this flame go from here to there, yet in reality the flame perishes in its very place, but due to unclear perception one thinks there is movement. Rūpa and the like are also like this: in reality they perish moment by moment, but those whose eye of wisdom is dim think there is movement. Conceding existence where none exists is overweening conceit.
