16.94

論「謂遠離前至即善後起」，答也。此有兩意：一離惡加行者，即是離殺生加行名善加行，根本、後起亦爾。二離惡加行者，謂離惡前方便，如欲受戒離惡前方便，來入戒壇周匝禮僧等，根本、後起亦爾。

The Śāstra [states], from "Namely, abstaining from the previous" up to "is the wholesome pṛṣṭha": this is the reply. This contains two senses: first, abstaining from unwholesome prayoga means abstaining from the prayoga of taking life is called wholesome prayoga, and the maula and pṛṣṭha are likewise; second, abstaining from unwholesome prayoga refers to the preparatory expedients for abstaining from unwholesome deeds, such as when wishing to receive the precepts, the preparatory expedients for abstaining from unwholesome deeds are coming into the ordination platform and bowing all around to the Saṅgha, and so forth, and the maula and pṛṣṭha are likewise.
