18.29
論「非破法輪至有此事故」，明破僧由業。《正理論》云「於此賢劫迦葉波佛時，釋迦牟尼曾破他眾，故《婆沙》云『自觀見昔，我無量無數劫前曾破壞他仙人眷屬。』問：因何二說不同？答：有兩事，二論各引一證。又釋：《婆沙》日月劫，故云無量無數劫。」
The Śāstra states: "A schism of the dharmacakra is not... because there is this circumstance", explaining that schism in the Sangha is caused by karma. The Nyāyānusāra says: "In this Bhadrakalpa, at the time of Kāśyapa Buddha, Śākyamuni once caused schism in another's assembly; thus the Vibhāṣā says: 'He personally observed and saw that in the past, countless and immeasurable eons ago, he had once ruined the retinue of another ṛṣi.' Question: Why do the two explanations differ? Answer: There are two events, and the two treatises each cite one as evidence. Another explanation: The Vibhāṣā refers to eons measured by sun and moon, hence it says 'countless and immeasurable eons'."
