18.32

「非破法輪至有此事故」者，顯破法輪由過去業，曾破壞他仙人眷屬，如前已說。又《正理》云「於此賢劫迦葉波佛時，釋迦牟尼曾破他眾故。」《婆沙》、《正理》各引一事，所以不同。

Regarding "A schism of the wheel of the teaching is not [...] because such an event occurred": this reveals that a schism of the wheel of the teaching is due to past karma, [Devadatta] having previously divided the retinue of another ṛṣi, as was said before. Furthermore, the *Nyāyānusāra* states: "Because during the time of Kāśyapa Buddha in this Bhadrakalpa, Śākyamuni previously divided another's assembly." The *Vibhāṣā* and the *Nyāyānusāra* each cite a different event, which is why they differ.
