18.89

論「契經說有三福業事」，已下明施、戒、修也。就中有二：一略、二廣。此一行頌，略明三類之體性，下文自釋。

The treatise says: "The sūtras say that there are three bases of meritorious actions (puṇyakriyāvastu)"—from here on, giving (dāna), morality (śīla), and cultivation (bhāvanā) are explained. In this there are two parts: first, a summary; second, a detailed exposition. This one verse summarily explains the essential nature of the three types; the text below explains it itself.
