The treatise's: "Some say that the inversion of self subsumes the view of individuality (satkāyadṛṣṭi) in its entirety," is the orthodox position of the Vibhāṣā. The Nyāyānusāra says: "What has been stated is the school of one master. However, the definitive doctrine of the Vibhāṣā is that, distinguishing among the twelve views by category, only two and a half views are the essence of the inversions: namely, the entirety of the view of individuality and the view-grasping of suffering, and the portion grasping permanence within the view of extremes (antagrāhadṛṣṭi). Since the aspects of the two views of annihilation and permanence are mutually contradictory, it can be said that their two essences are distinct. Theorists of self adhere to the self having sovereign power over those [aggregates], which is the view of what belongs to self (ātmīyadṛṣṭi). Thus the view of self operates through two modes." Following this text, the latter explanation is the orthodox one.
