On the Śāstra's words, "Causing the mind to be exalted ... therefore they are divided into seven kinds": This is like the explanation of views. Wisdom's ability to investigate and seek out is collectively given the name 'view'; differences in its mode of operation divide it into multiple kinds. 'Mode' means the cognitive mode; 'operation' means arising. Causing the mind to be exalted is collectively given the name 'pride'; differences in cognitive mode toward existing objective spheres divide it into the seven prides. The *Nyāyānusāra* says: "When a foolish person first compares self and other with respect to existent or non-existent matters, and an exaltation arises in their mind, this is called 'pride'. Because of differences in mode and operation, it is divided into seven kinds." The commentary explains: 'Existent matters' means corresponding to the objective sphere; 'non-existent matters' means not corresponding to the objective sphere.
