論「若爾至應名能識」，眼見家難。經說眼見色，見依名眼見；識亦依眼根，應說眼能識。

On the Śāstra's statement: "If so, [...] it should be called capable of cognising": this is an objection by the proponent of the eye seeing. The sūtra states that the eye sees visible form, and the seeing takes its basis [in the eye], so it is called "the eye seeing"; since consciousness also takes its basis in the eye sense-faculty, one should also say that the eye can cognise.
