On the Śāstra's: "Those thus spoken of ... are completely non-faculties by nature": The second part, distinguishing subsumption under the elements. Among the eighteen elements, the six faculties and six consciousnesses are entirely faculties. The five faculties are the seven physical faculties; the seven mental elements are the mental faculty. "A portion of the dharmadhātu" refers to the life faculty, the five faculties of faith and the rest, and the five feeling faculties. A portion of the three untainted faculties: that among the three untainted faculties which consists of the primary mind is subsumed under the mental element, while the remaining mental concomitants are subsumed under the dharmadhātu. "The last three" refers to the three untainted faculties: if taking mental concomitants as their essence, they are subsumed under the dharmadhātu; if taking mind as their essence, they are subsumed under the mind and mental consciousness elements. Female and male faculties are a portion of the body faculty and are subsumed under the body faculty. The five objects—visual form and the rest—and a portion of the dharmadhātu are not faculties.
