Regarding the treatise's statement, "Because ignorance can serve as the root of the existences": This quotes the stanza to reply. That ignorance is the root of the three existences means that because the various defilements, karmas, and so forth arise from ignorance, it is called the root of existence; it is not the root of ignorance in the twelve links of dependent origination. The ignorance among the twelve links generally takes all defilements as its intrinsic nature. The Nyāyānusāra says: "This alone is separately established under the name of outpouring in order to show the preeminent fault of ignorance, meaning that it alone can act as the root of saṃsāra. As a sūtra says: 'With ignorance as condition, attachment and passion arise,' and so forth in detail. How could this be the link of ignorance?"
