On the text from "The Śāstra says" to "further adds wrath and concealment": this recounts alternative explanations. Based on the sūtra saying that the entanglement of sensual desire acts as a condition, we know that root afflictions are also named entanglements. The *Prakaraṇapāda* states eight, and the *Vibhāṣā* ten. The *Nyāyānusāra* says: "These ten kinds tie and bind conscious beings, placing them in the prison of saṃsāra; hence they are named entanglements. Or, with the ten as causes, one gives rise to evil actions that cause one to be confined to bad destinies; hence they are named entanglements."
