On the passage in the treatise, "The remaining [defilements]—lack of shame, lack of conscience ... because they are subsumed under ground phenomena": this explains the remaining four. These four are universally associated with the five feelings. Lack of shame and lack of conscience belong to the unwholesome ground, and are therefore common to all unwholesome states. Unwholesome states are common to the six consciousnesses and the five feelings. Torpor and restlessness belong to the great defiled ground, and are therefore common to all defiled minds. All defiled minds are common to the six consciousnesses, the five feelings, and the upper and lower stages; therefore, they are common to the five feelings.
