On the Śāstra's statement: "Contentment and few desires [...] have desire-greed as their nature": This explains that the antidotes and what is to be countered differ in their realm-bindings, intrinsic natures, and breadth. Therefore the Nyāyānusāra says: "Contentment and few desires associated with wholesome minds bound to the desire realm are bound to the desire realm; those of the [other] two realms and the untainted (anāsrava) should be stated by analogy with this. The two kinds of things to be countered are bound solely to the desire realm. By what evidence is this known? That the form and formless realms also possess the antidotes—contentment and few desires—is evident from the fact that when one born in the desire realm brings forth [equipoise] from the form or formless realm, the active occurrence of the two things to be countered becomes distant, while the active occurrence of the two antidotes increases."
