22.81

論「不爾可愛至是非愛法」，論主通難。樂自相實可愛，聖人以此受是放逸處故，要由廣大功力所成，變壞無常故非可愛，非彼自相非可愛也。

On the Śāstra's statement, "Not so; agreeable... is a disagreeable phenomenon": The author of the Śāstra resolves the objection. The intrinsic characteristic of pleasure is genuinely agreeable; the noble person, because this sensation is an occasion of heedlessness, must be accomplished through vast effort, and is subject to alteration and impermanent, considers it not agreeable; it is not that its intrinsic characteristic is not agreeable.
