22.84

論「若由自相至實有三受」，此論主引經難大眾部也。慶喜既言「餘經說有三受，不言密意」，故知說三受經非密意也。慶喜既言「依何密意此經復言諸所有受無非是苦」，故知說諸受苦經是密意也。

On the Śāstra's statement, "If by intrinsic characteristic... three sensations really exist": Here the author of the Śāstra cites a sūtra to challenge the Mahāsāṃghikas. Since Ānanda said, "Other sūtras say there are three sensations, without speaking of a hidden intent," one therefore knows that the sūtras speaking of three sensations are not of hidden intent. Since Ānanda said, "Relying on what hidden intent does this sūtra again say that whatever sensation there is, none is other than suffering?", one therefore knows that the sūtras speaking of all sensations as suffering are of hidden intent.
