On the Śāstra's statement: "The sūtra speaks of correctness ... therefore it is called 'emergence from birth'": this explains the name 'noble emergence from birth' (*samyaktvaniyāma*). Thus the *Vibhāṣā* says: "Furthermore, the defilements abandoned by seeing cause sentient beings to fall into the bad destinies and suffer intense pain. Just as undigested food remaining long in the body can cause all kinds of extreme suffering and distress, so these defilements are called 'birth' (*āma*). The path of seeing can extinguish them; therefore it is called 'emergence from birth' (*niyāma*). Furthermore, the view of individuality and so on are stubborn and difficult to subdue, like untamed wild beasts; therefore they are called 'birth.' The path of seeing can extinguish them; therefore it is called 'emergence from birth.' Furthermore, all defilements or kinds of craving prevent the roots of goodness from maturing and moisten the states of existence so as to give rise to faults; all of these are called 'birth.' When the path of seeing has arisen, it destroys their power so that they no longer cause the faults of superior birth; on this account, the path of seeing alone is called 'emergence from birth.'"
