論「若謂見位至九結聚相違」，此外難也。以本論說四法類智及修所斷以為九結，此九皆言是智斷故，故知見位非忍斷惑。

The Śāstra states: "If it were claimed that in the stage of vision... up to: would contradict the group of nine fetters (saṃyojana)." This is an external objection. Because the basic treatise states that the four dharma- and subsequent cognitions and what is severed by cultivation constitute nine fetters, and since these nine are all said to be severed by cognition, one therefore knows that in the stage of vision it is not forbearance that severs defilements.
