On the passage of the treatise from "By parity of reasoning, one should explain" to "the meaning of pursuing practice": Corresponding to the above explanation of the person who is a follower by faith, the explanation of the follower by Dharma (*dharmānusārin*) is the same. Taking the Dharma as foremost, by virtue of the meaning of pursuing practice, one is called a follower by Dharma. Fascicle 54 of the *Vibhāṣā* says: "Why is one called a follower by faith? Answer: Because they rely on faith and pursue practice following faith, they are called a follower by faith. That is to say, relying on defiled faith, they practice following undefiled faith; relying on faith associated with transmigration, they practice following faith associated with liberation; relying on bound faith, they practice following unbound faith. By having faith as their forerunner, they attain entry into the noble path. A person of this category has, from the beginning, an innate disposition of abundant faith. If they hear another exhort them: 'You should engage in farming to sustain yourself,' they do not reflect: 'Should I do this or should I not do this? Am I capable of doing this or not capable of doing this? Is it suitable or is it not suitable?' Having heard it, they immediately act. Or if they hear another exhort them: 'You should become a merchant,' or 'You should serve the king,' or 'You should study writing, reckoning, seal-engraving, and various other arts and crafts to sustain yourself,' they also do not reflect, and so on at length, until: having heard it, they immediately act. Up to going forth into homelessness and so forth, it is also like this. Question: Why is one called a follower by Dharma? Answer: Because they rely on the Dharma and pursue practice following the Dharma, they are called a follower by Dharma. That is to say, relying on defiled dharmas, they practice following undefiled dharmas; relying on dharmas associated with transmigration, they practice following dharmas associated with liberation; relying on bound dharmas, they practice following unbound dharmas. Having wisdom as their forerunner, they attain entry into the noble path. A person of this category has, from the beginning, an innate disposition of abundant wisdom. If they hear another exhort them: 'You should engage in farming to sustain yourself,' they immediately reflect: 'Should I do this or not do this?' and so forth."
