論「餘位亦有至是故不說」，《正理論》云「非聖亦有極七返生，相續成就得涅槃義。然非決定，是故不說。」《婆沙》一百二十云「問：諸預流者為有現智，能自審知已盡地獄、傍生、餓鬼險惡趣坑而自知耶？答：不知。若爾，何故得知？答：信佛語故（云云多釋）。」

The treatise says, "In other stages there are also... therefore it is not spoken of." The *Nyāyānusāra* says: "Non-nobles also have the meaning of returning for at most seven births and, having perfected their mental continuity, attaining nirvāṇa. Yet because it is not determinate, it is therefore not spoken of." The *Vibhāṣā*, fascicle 120, states: "Question: Do stream-enterers possess direct knowledge by which they can examine and know for themselves that hells, animals, and hungry ghosts—the precipitous bad destinies and pits—have already been exhausted? Answer: They do not know. If so, why do they know it? Answer: Because they have faith in the Buddha's words (with various further explanations)."
