23.76

論「由死退捨至異生亦無退」，此明凡、聖捨定異也。此亦應言世第一法，異生亦無命終捨也。捨、得既據生相時說，此中說捨皆是同時，謂正命終等，非得生至生相故。

On the Śāstra's statement: "Abandonment through death and retrogression [...] an ordinary being also does not retrogress": this clarifies that the abandonment by ordinary beings and āryas is definitely different. Here it should also be stated that for the Supreme Mundane Dharma, an ordinary being also has no abandonment through end of life. Since abandonment and attainment are both stated in terms of the moment of the arising characteristic, the abandonments spoken of here are all simultaneous, namely at the very moment of death and the like, not because the attainment is born up to the arising characteristic.
