23.75

論「異生於地至亦由退捨」，明凡捨也。異生命終捨此善根，若生上地及自下地，但命終時即捨煖等，前二善根是可退故。異生亦退，非是聖也。

On the Śāstra's statement: "An ordinary being regarding the bhūmi [...] also through abandonment by retrogression": this clarifies abandonment by an ordinary being. When an ordinary being's life ends, they abandon these roots of goodness; whether born into a higher bhūmi or into their own lower bhūmi, whenever life ends, they immediately abandon Heat and the rest. Because the first two roots of goodness can retrogress, an ordinary being also retrogresses, whereas an ārya does not.
