23.79

論「若先已得至還從本修」，第十二明捨已重起。故《婆沙》云「問：若餘生中即起頂者，從何作意無間起耶？答：如起煖時所有作意。如說從煖起頂，從頂起忍亦爾。問：若爾，何故說煖無間起頂，頂無間起忍耶？答：依一身中相續起者作如是說，然非一切。」

On the Śāstra's statement: "If one had already attained previously [...] one cultivates anew from the foundation": the twelfth [section] clarifies cultivating anew after abandonment. Therefore the Vibhāṣā says: "Question: If one gives rise immediately to Summits in another birth, immediately after which mental application does it arise? Answer: It is like any mental application present when giving rise to Heat. Just as it is said that from Heat one gives rise to Summits, so it is said that from Summits one gives rise to Receptivities. Question: If so, why is it said that immediately after Heat one gives rise to Summits, and immediately after Summits one gives rise to Receptivities? Answer: This was stated in terms of arising in uninterrupted succession within a single body, but not for all."
