24.104

論「謂苦、集類智至相應有八」，釋苦、集智必緣有頂所以。唯緣有頂，斷有頂惑故。苦、集是厭行，不可厭下斷上惑故。

The Śāstra says: "Namely, the subsequent knowledges of suffering and origination […] there are eight associated [aspects]." This explains the reason why the knowledges of suffering and origination must take the peak of existence as their object. They exclusively take the peak of existence as their object because they abandon the defilements of the peak of existence. Suffering and origination are aspects of revulsion; one cannot be revulsed by a lower stage to abandon the defilements of a higher stage.
