論「第二靜慮至各三十六」，釋。「二定二地各三十六」者，謂未至除喜，二定除尋，故各三十六。

On the Śāstra's statement: "The second dhyāna... each has thirty-six": Explanation. 'The two concentrations and two grounds each have thirty-six' means that the preliminary stage excludes joy (prīti) and the second dhyāna excludes investigation (vitarka); hence each has thirty-six.
