25.78

論「毘婆沙師至亦有退義」，述有部宗也。依《宗輪論》，大眾部等，預流果有退、應果不退。經部，預流、應果俱不退。有部，預流不退、應果有退。

On the Śāstra's statement: "The Vaibhāṣika masters ... also admits of falling away": This states the Sarvāstivādin tenet. According to the Samayabhedoparacanacakra, the Mahāsāṃghikas and others hold that the fruit of stream-entry admits of falling away, while the fruit of arhatship does not fall away. The Sautrāntikas hold that neither stream-entry nor arhatship falls away. The Sarvāstivādins hold that stream-entry does not fall away, while arhatship admits of falling away.
