The passage of the śāstra from 'Without interval from inductive knowledge...' down to '...because of relying on and taking as object the lower' explains that from inductive knowledge (anvaya-jñāna) one can give rise to the pure and the untainted of the formless realm, but not from dharma-knowledge (dharma-jñāna). The meaning in the Nyāyānusāra is: because their bases and objects differ. For dharma-knowledge relies on six stages and takes the desire realm as its object. The pure and the untainted of the formless realm rely on the formless and take the formless as their object; they do not give rise to one another. Inductive knowledge of a lower stage giving rise to the formless realm must take the object, and because the stage of the object is far removed and the observing mind is difficult to arise, due to this contradiction it cannot arise without interval.
