論「若從生染至未離下故」，明生染與定染不同也。若染污心命終，能生自、下一切地染，不能生上染。以若離染即不染心命終，若不離染即不能生上地故。

The passage of the śāstra from 'If from the defiled of rebirth...' down to '...because one has not detached from the lower' clarifies that the defiled of rebirth is different from the defiled of meditation. If one dies with a defiled mind, it can give rise to the defilement of its own and all lower stages, but cannot give rise to higher defilement; because if one has detached from defilement, one does not die with a defiled mind, and if one has not detached from defilement, one cannot be born into an upper stage.
