On the treatise's question, "Transcending this, is there no liberation in others?": Within this chapter there are naturally two parts: first, properly refuting the self; second, encouraging the study of non-self. According to the precedent of various sūtras, since a question is not the introductory section, it cannot be divided into three. Within the proper refutation of the self, it is further divided into three: first, generally refuting the separate positing of a real self; second, refuting the positing of a self by divergent sects; third, refuting the positing of a self by divergent paths. Within the preceding text, it is further divided into two: first, clarifying the faults of grasping a self; second, properly clarifying the refutation of grasping a real self. Within the preceding text, there are further four sections: first, the question; second, the answer; third, the interrogation; fourth, the explanation. This text is the question: transcending the principle of non-self clarified above and separately grasping a real self, is there indeed no liberation?
