30.60

論「阿毘達磨至分明說故」，論主引阿毘達磨證也。言我有、無，是常斷見攝，深為應理。執我有、無，常、斷邊故，如前所引《筏蹉經》中分明說故。

On the Śāstra's: "In the Abhidharma ... it is clearly stated": The author of the Śāstra cites the Abhidharma as proof. Stating that the self exists or does not exist is subsumed under eternalist and annihilationist views, which is profoundly reasonable. Clinging to the existence or non-existence of a self belongs to the extremes of eternalism and annihilationism, because this is clearly stated in the Vatsagotra-sūtra cited earlier.
