30.59

論「此不成證至墮惡見處故」，論主破也。以經說定執無我者墮惡見故，即證有我。彼經又說定執有我者墮惡見故，亦證無我也。故知此經令離斷、常，不證有我。

On the Śāstra's: "This does not constitute proof ... because of falling into the place of wrong views": The author of the Śāstra refutes it. If the sūtra stating that those who resolutely cling to non-self fall into wrong views were to prove that there is a self, then since that sūtra also states that those who resolutely cling to a self fall into wrong views, it would equally prove non-self. Therefore one should know that this sūtra leads one away from annihilationism and eternalism, and does not prove that a self exists.
