4.137

論「經說諂誑至令還問佛」，第二引證，如文可解。梵王不知四大若無漏定，依六禪地皆容可盡、皆悉能斷，第四靜慮修煩惱故。若有漏定，唯空處近分，唯此近分能盡色故。

The Śāstra says: "The sūtra speaks of deceit and fraudulence […] caused him to return and question the Buddha." The second cites proof, which can be understood from the text. Brahmā did not know that the four great elements, if based on untainted concentration, can be completely exhausted and cut off based on the six dhyāna levels, because afflictions are cultivated up through the fourth dhyāna. If based on tainted concentration, it is only the threshold concentration of the sphere of empty space (ākāśānantyāyatana), for only this threshold concentration can exhaust form.
