The Śāstra says: "Furthermore, dharmas to be abandoned by seeing and by cultivation […] all are not to be abandoned." This clarifies the heading of the three abandonments. Because dharmas to be abandoned by seeing and by cultivation are conditioned, their possession, following the dharmas possessed, encompasses both abandonments. Dharmas not to be abandoned encompass three kinds: conditioned undefiled dharmas, analytical cessation, and non-analytical cessation. The possession of conditioned undefiled dharmas, following the dharmas possessed, is exclusively not to be abandoned. The possession of analytical cessation, following the path, encompasses both defiled and undefiled: defiled is abandoned by the path of cultivation, while undefiled possession is not abandoned. The possession of non-analytical cessation, following nikāya-sabhāga and the life-faculty, is abandoned exclusively by the path of cultivation. The remaining text is intelligible, and so is not quoted and explained.
