「論曰至為同類因」，此總釋也。「謂相似法與相似法為同類因」，准此論文，若是與相似法為因，名同類因，即同類之因名同類因。若以相似法為因名同類因，即同類是因名同類因。義通兩釋，不及前解。

On "The Śāstra says: ...acts as the homogeneous cause": this is the general explanation. "Similar phenomena act as the homogeneous cause for similar phenomena": according to this text of the Śāstra, if it acts as a cause for similar phenomena it is called a homogeneous cause, which is to say 'the cause of the homogeneous kind is called the homogeneous cause'. If it takes similar phenomena as cause it is called a homogeneous cause, which is to say 'that which is of the homogeneous kind is the cause, hence called the homogeneous cause'. The meaning accommodates both explanations, but neither reaches the earlier interpretation.
