6.69

論「有餘師說至四非色因」，此是第二師說。前師說同善五蘊等，第二師云：五是色果，四非色因。此師意：以色性劣故與勝為因，四蘊勝色，故非色因。

On the Śāstra's statement: "Other masters say... the four are not causes of matter": this is the statement of the second master. The previous master said that it is identical to the wholesome five aggregates and so on. The second master says: the five are results of matter, but the four are not causes of matter. This master's intention is: because the nature of matter is inferior, it serves as a cause for the superior; the four aggregates are superior to matter, and therefore are not causes of matter.
