The Śāstra says, "Other masters say ... the domain of the twelve āyatanas": this recounts an alternative explanation. The Vibhāṣā also has two explanations, which agree with this śāstra. Relying on the text regarding minds that initiate bodily and vocal actions in deportment and so forth, deportment takes only form as an object, while craft also includes sound, just as in the case of minds that initiate wholesome or unwholesome actions. Now, when the previous master speaks of taking four or five sense-fields as objects, these are not minds that directly initiate action, but are the immediately preceding and succeeding minds. What distinguishes him from the latter master is that only those taking four or five sense-fields as objects are called minds of deportment and the like. The latter master also includes the twelve āyatanas. As for the expression "the path of deportment and the domain of craft," they derive their names from that which they rely upon, because deportment mostly relies on the path [of movements], while craft mostly relies on its domain [of skills].
