The treatise says: "The rest means what was previously stated... are acquired only by themselves." This explains the remaining minds. Among the twelve minds, the defiled minds of the three realms constitute four minds, namely the unwholesome and defiled-neutral minds of the desire realm, and one defiled-neutral mind in each of the upper two realms; the form-realm good mind and the trainee's mind make a total of six acquired minds, as described before. The non-defiled indeterminates of the three realms, the desire-realm and formless-realm good minds, and the mind beyond training—these six minds are acquired only by themselves. Question: This treatise and others state that the desire-realm defiled mind acquires only six minds. The Vijñānakāya, fascicle 13, says: "If one accomplishes an unwholesome mind, one definitely accomplishes the desire-realm non-defiled indeterminate mind." If so, at the moment of returning from a realm when reconnecting with rebirth, one accomplishes an unwholesome mind at that time, and at that very time should also acquire bodily deportment and craftsmanship, thus acquiring seven minds; why say six? The Samayapradīpikā is also like this. Because the treatises' perspectives differ, cases like this are not unique. Although someone offered various explanations, all of them left room for doubt regarding the meaning; one should further consult the Vijñānakāya.
