8.180

論「又所現像至非等於法」，釋第二也。鏡像生時，因於本質、依鏡面生。由二緣故，與法不同。生有生時唯因死有，無別所依勝緣如鏡，故不等也。

On the passage in the śāstra from "Furthermore, the manifested reflection" to "is not equivalent to the dharma": This explains the second point. When a mirror reflection arises, it is caused by the original object and depends upon the mirror surface to arise. Because it depends on two conditions, it is unlike the dharma in question. When the existence at rebirth (upapattibhava) arises, it is caused solely by the existence at death (maraṇabhava), without any distinct, superior condition to rely upon like a mirror; thus they are not equivalent.
