8.188

論「是則應許至故執非善」，破轉救也。若五不還說有中般，即是別有中天。五不還中說生般等，應更別有生等天也。既不許然，故執非理。

On the passage in the śāstra from "If so, one should accept" to "therefore what is held is not good": This refutes the counter-defense. If the mention of one who enters nirvāṇa in the intermediate state among the five non-returners means that there is a distinct intermediate heaven, then since one who enters nirvāṇa upon birth (upapadyaparinirvāyin) and the others are mentioned among the five non-returners, there should additionally be distinct heavens of birth and so forth. Since that is not accepted, what they hold is unreasonable.
