8.54

論「從他所聞至生貪愛故」，答也。自雖未得，從他聞說生貪心也。或自已得退起欲貪，或觀他化起貪心也。

On the Śāstra's statement: "Because greed and affection arise from hearing it from another ...": this is the reply. Although one has not obtained it oneself, hearing it spoken of by another, one gives rise to a greedy mind. Or having obtained it oneself, one falls back and gives rise to desire-greed; or observing another's magical transformation, one gives rise to a greedy mind.
