8.78

論「不爾趣義至即死處生故」，大眾部通難也。別說業有，不違趣義，故是趣收。別說中有，違趣義故，故不名趣。

On the Śāstra's statement: "Not so; the meaning of destiny ... because it takes birth right where one dies": the Mahāsāṃghika resolves the objection. Speaking separately of karmic existence does not contradict the meaning of a destiny, and so it is included in destiny. Speaking separately of intermediate existence contradicts the meaning of a destiny, and so it is not called a destiny.
