論「識為先故至遍一期生」，此釋識緣名色。言「遍一期生」者，此經部名色從初生後乃至死有，皆名名色，於名色上更立餘支。

The treatise says: "Because consciousness comes first ... pervading the entirety of a single lifetime." This explains consciousness conditioning name-and-form. As for the phrase "pervading the entirety of a single lifetime," in the Sautrāntika school, from after the initial arising up to death-existence, all of it is called name-and-form; upon name-and-form, the remaining links are further posited.
