The treatise states: "... not the non-existence of a friend." This presents analogies to illustrate. Within this there are three: first, giving the analogy of a friend and a non-friend; second, giving the analogy of the real and the unreal; third, using the word "and the rest" to encompass other analogies like unrighteousness and so forth. This is the first, friend and non-friend. Here, "non-friend" takes only an opposing enemy to be named "non-friend"; it is not that because its entity is not a friend, or different from a friend, that it is named non-friend, nor is it named non-friend because of the non-existence of a friend.
