17.5

On the Śāstra's stating: "The first seven are karma [...] the name karmapatha is established", this explains the first seven karmapathas. Because the first seven karmapathas are of the nature of karma, they are called karma; and because karmic volition operates by taking them as its objective support, they are called karmapathas. These seven are karma and are the path of karma, so the name karmapatha is established for them.
