The treatise says, "There are also those capable of reconnecting [...] because it is not in other states": this is the answer. There are two categories: if one severed the good roots without having committed an unpardonable transgression, one can also reconnect them in the present life. If one severed the good roots having committed an unpardonable transgression, one definitely cannot reconnect them in the present life; that person definitely reconnects them when about to die in hell or when about to take birth [there]. Relying on this textual evidence, although the good roots are reconnected when taking birth in hell, having reconnected the good roots, one still experiences hell, because a person who committed an unpardonable transgression definitely reaches the intermediate existence and persists for an eon and so forth.
