On the Śāstra's text, "Having thus explained... what are their characteristics?": It sums up what precedes and introduces what follows. It sums up the fruit of abandonment explained before, and introduces the cause of cessation explained after. This chapter has three major sections: first, explaining the essential nature of the path; second, explaining the objects contemplated by the path; third, differentiating persons in relation to the path. The following single verse explains the essential nature of the path.
