On the Śāstra's statement, "Moreover, the sūtra says... because it is a phenomenon subject to alteration": This resolves the second sūtra. When the sūtra says to observe pleasant sensation as suffering, pleasant sensation has two aspects: first, the approach of intrinsic characteristic, which because it is agreeable is of the nature of pleasure; second, relying on a figurative approach, impermanence and alteration are of the nature of suffering. Because the Buddha instructed that it be observed as suffering through the figurative approach, it is not that it is observed as suffering through the approach of intrinsic characteristic.
