Regarding the verse-text, 'All contaminated discernment ... worldly right views make six': this explains that all contaminated discernment can be called knowledge, because regarding the observed object it is not the initial observation. Fascicle 44 of the Vibhāṣā says: 'There is not a single sentient being who has not repeatedly observed all objects with contaminated discernment from beginningless time; therefore, contaminated discernment is entirely subsumed under knowledge' (thus ends the treatise text). That is to say, all contaminated discernments, whether defiled or undefiled, are called knowledge. Although what is perceived by the five sense-consciousnesses differs from moment to moment, because they perceive the same category, they are also called knowledge. Moreover, because the apprehended object has been repeatedly observed with contaminated discernment from beginningless time, with the exception of the discernments associated with the five groups of sense-consciousness, all remaining wholesome discernments are named views; that is, they are subsumed under worldly right views. Among defiled discernments, only five are called views; all neutral (avyākṛta) discernments are not views.
