On the Śāstra's: "The object with respect to consciousness […] the same is also true for mental phenomena": resolving the objection. Predominant function refers to supreme sovereignty. The eye is supremely sovereign within eye-consciousness; therefore it is called predominant. There are two senses: first, it serves as the common basis for many consciousnesses apprehending blue and so forth; second, the supported consciousness varies in clarity or obscurity in accordance with the supporting faculty. Due to these two senses, the faculty has the meaning of supreme, sovereign predominance with respect to consciousness. As for "Visible forms are not like this, because the two are contrary": first, a blue form is only the objective support for discerning blue form, not for discerning yellow form and the like. Second, when a visible form undergoes change and destruction, the consciousness does not change and destruct along with it. Because these two aspects of visible form run contrary to the two aspects of the faculty, it is not established as a faculty. This applies up to the mental faculty, which also possesses both; sounds and the rest are also like this.
