The Śāstra states: "Therefore, one should not ... because of their sovereign function." This shows that the other factors are not included among the faculties. The Nyāyānusāra states: "One should not further establish perception and the like as faculties. Among the defilements, the fault of craving is the gravest; therefore, feeling alone is established as a faculty for it. That the fault of craving is the gravest is because the sūtras state that craving is the cause of the arising of the six āyatanas. Furthermore, perception is not the cause of the arising of the defilement of views; after an erroneous view has arisen from other causes, the false discriminative perception sustains it in continuity, and without the correct antidote it cannot be severed or destroyed; therefore, this perception is said to be the cause for that [view]. Feeling is the cause for craving and universally pervades both kinds. Because feeling is the cause of the gravest defilement and because it pervades both causes, it alone is established as a faculty."
